Find out more about warts and what you can do to treat this sometimes-embarrassing skin issue.warts

These raised bumps on the surface of your skin aren’t typically a threat to our health; however, our Rockville, MD, dermatologists understand that it can still be awkward and disfiguring, at times. Here are the most common types of warts and when you should come in for professional treatment,

Common Warts

Even though these rounded warts can appear just about anywhere on the body they are most often found on fingers and toes. When you look more closely at these flesh-colored or pink warts they may look like a cluster of small bumps. They may even contain small black dots without them (this is just a grouping of small blood vessels).

Plantar Warts

These warts are found on the heels or soles of the feet, which can be rather uncomfortable or even painful when wearing shoes or walking around. What makes plantar warts different from other warts is that instead of growing outward they grow inward. So if you check the soles of your feet and notice a rough patch of skin with a hole in the middle (or a callused area with tiny black spots on it) then you might have a plantar wart.

Flat Warts

While flat warts are pretty small they often grow in places that are more obvious such as the face or arms, which can leave the sufferer feeling embarrassed about their appearance. This type of wart may be pink or brown or contain a yellow tint to them.

When should I turn to a doctor?

If the wart isn’t giving you any problems then you may just wish to let the problem run its course, since warts will go away on their own over time. Of course, if the wart is painful or if it is affecting your appearance, then you’ll want to schedule an appointment with our Rockville skin doctor to find out a faster way to get rid of the wart. If the warts bleeds or contains pus you’ll also want to come in right away, as these are signs of an infection.

If you are dealing with warts and want them removed then turn to the skin experts at Shady Grove Dermatology in Rockville, MD. We are here to handle all of your skin concerns. Schedule an appointment with us today.
