Injectables Q&A

How do injectables work?

For many people, cosmetic injectables provide a reliable way to minimize visible signs of aging on the face. If you’re interested in trying cosmetic injectables at Shady Grove Dermatology, you have a few excellent options:

Neuromodulators

Neuromodulators such as Botox®, Daxxify®, Dysport®, Juveau®, Myobloc®, and Xeomin® temporarily conceal the finer lines on your face. These products treat frown lines, forehead lines, and others by blocking the signals between nerves and the muscles they control. They can also treat specific medical conditions like hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating).

Fillers

Fillers add volume to your face to alter or enhance your appearance. While they can’t change your bone structure, you can use fillers like Belotero®, Juvéderm®, Radiesse®, Restylane®, and Sculptra® to plump your lips, cheeks, or hands. You can also use them to minimize the depth of scars or wrinkles. Some fillers are absorbable/reversible, while others are not.

What results can I get from injectables?

The injectables available at Shady Grove Dermatology can minimize many cosmetic features you’d rather not have while enhancing or highlighting others.

Consider injectables at Shady Grove Dermatology to treat:

  • Crow’s feet
  • Frown lines
  • Forehead lines
  • Thin or uneven lips
  • Nasolabial folds
  • Marionette lines
  • Smile lines
  • Volume loss in the cheeks
  • Depressed scars
  • Bony hands
  • Neck bands

Your dermatologist might direct you to neuromodulators for hyperhidrosis, chronic sialorrhea (drooling), or cervical dystonia, among other conditions.

How long do injectables last?

Results from injectables are generally long-lasting but not permanent. If you use neuromodulators, you can expect their wrinkle-smoothing effects to last roughly three months. When fine lines eventually reappear, you can repeat your injectable treatment at Shady Grove Dermatology if you wish to do so.

For fillers, the duration of your results depends on the type you use. Hyaluronic acid-based fillers add soft volume for 3-12 months and are reversible. Like neuromodulators, these treatments are also repeatable.

Other fillers contain ingredients that help your skin generate more collagen, a natural structural fiber. These fillers offer results for up to two years because of the added structure of collagen. You may discuss your options further during your personalized dermatology consultation at Shady Grove Dermatology.
